Cendrine Marrouat: You have shared the stage with some amazing talents, such as The White Stripes, Ani DiFranco, Sarah MacLachlan, The Dixie Chicks, and The Indigo Girls. Would you tell us about your favorite moment?

Amanda Rheaume: I have so many favorite moments! One of my favorite moments was in 1999 onstage at Lilith. I was sharing a microphone with one of my dearest friends and fellow musicians Tara Holloway and Sarah MacLachlan, The Indigo Girls were to my left and we were all singing "Closer to Fine" in front of about 16, 000 people. This was one of the most important moments of my whole life and catapulted me into wanting to be a musician.

CM: You have traveled and performed in many countries and areas of the world, including Afghanistan, Central America, the Faroe Islands, Canada, and the United States. Have you noticed a difference in the way your music has been received?

AR: When I went down to Austin, Texas, I felt really at home. I felt the music really fit in there and people really understood what I was doing. However, I think that if you are present and singing from a place of joy all the time you can connect with just about anyone. Singing for the troops in Alert and Afghanistan was intense and amazing. It added a lot of weight to the purpose of singing and performing. It reminded me that music is the universal language and that it can help people, bring them happiness, reflection etc.

CM: As an independent artist, what are the main challenges that you encounter?

AR: Funding. Having enough time to get everything done! Balancing writing new material with always performing live.

CM: Do independent artists have a specific role in society? If so, what is it?

AR: I think independent artists are a huge inspiration in society. I hope that it reminds people that anything is possible and that you have to follow your heart. I think it is also a reminder that you are in charge of your own destiny. If you want something bad enough you can make it happen and you can make it happen on your own.

CM: What is next for you?

AR: Heading out on the road for 4 weeks! Touring across Canada starting September 9th playing 26 shows in 31 days!

CM: Where can people find more about you?

AR: www.amandarheaume.com
