Louisville author Rose Pressey is making waves with her cozy mystery series. I was lucky enough to interview her about her upcoming release.
DMB: I’m sure you’re thrilled about your upcoming release, can you tell me a little more about it?
RP: My Haunted Vintage series is set in Georgia, where the owner of a vintage clothing store deals with the ghost of a recently deceased socialite. It will be available from Kensington Publishing this fall. My other new series will be out this February. The first book is Dead Girl’s Guide to Style and is about a personal stylist to vampires.
DMB: You’ve written so many books; do you have one that is your personal favorite?
RP: Picking a favorite book is like a mother picking a favorite child. I just can’t pick one.
DMB: Do you have a favorite first line from one of your books?
RP: “Dead people won’t leave me alone.” That’s the first line from Me and My Ghoulfriends.
DMB: Describe your writing in five words or less.
RP: Quirky, fun, and humorous.
DMB: Did you always know that you wanted to be a writer or was there a moment when you realized this was what you wanted to do with your life?
RP: I knew about twenty years ago, but didn’t start writing until about seven years ago. I had to do something to get the characters out of my head.
DMB: Any decent writer is also an avid reader, so do you have a favorite author or genre?
RP: I enjoy cozy mysteries and paranormal romance. Some writers I like are Molly Harper, Dakota Cassidy, Janet Evanovich, and Mary Kay Andrews.
DMB: Do you have a favorite place to curl up with a good book?
RP: My bed is extremely comfortable, so that’s a favorite spot for me. But I will read almost anywhere given the opportunity.
DMB: So many writers have rituals that they follow when writing, do you have a particular ritual that you follow?
RP: I don’t think I have rituals, but I like routine. Usually I write in the morning and again in the evening. I try to fit all the other stuff in the middle.
DMB: You’re from the Louisville Kentucky area; do you have a favorite restaurant or bar that has ever made its way into one of your books?
RP: Not a specific place, but I get ideas from places all around. Bardstown, Kentucky was the inspiration for the town in Me and My Ghoulfriends.
DMB: Outside of writing, do you have any other hobbies and do any of your characters share these hobbies with you?
RP: I enjoy home design and decorating. Of course, I’m a huge paranormal fan, so I like to visit haunted and historic sites.
DMB: What will be next for you?
RP: More books!
DMB: Where can readers go to learn more about your work?

With whizzing bullets, car chases, and spandex-clad bodybuilders, Maggie wonders if she's in over her head. Forever Charmed (The Halloween LaVeau Series, Book 1)
Customer Reviews: 4.2 out of 5 stars (199)
Halloween LaVeau is descended from a long line of witches. Yes, her name is Halloween. The cosmic universe is definitely playing some kind of sick joke on her. She's the ultimate witch cliché, complete with a black cat and spooky house. Thank heavens she's missing the warts and flying broom.
When Halloween inherits her great-aunt's manor, she decides to put the house to good use as a bed-and-breakfast. Her first guest is the sinfully good-looking Nicolas Marcos, but he's not here for the continental breakfast. Halloween discovers a ratty old book in the attic. It's written in an unfamiliar language.
Halloween soon learns this is not an ordinary spellbook. The tome brings her a new talent, but her new skills come with a catch. When a rival witch comes after the book, Halloween doesn't know who to trust-the sexy vampire who says he wants to save the day, or the warlock who says he can destroy the book once and for all.

Apparently, she's in charge of keeping order within the paranormal world.
If that wasn't enough, Halloween--or Hallie as she prefers to be called--has two gorgeous men making her life even more confusing. The sexy vampire Nicolas Marcos has been accused of stealing another witch's powers. With the help of Nicolas' brother, the good-looking warlock Liam Rankin, Hallie must discover if Nicolas is guilty as charged. How will she navigate this Underworld?
