Aside from being a normal, active 19 year old, the young Lindsey Mae is an extraordinarily talented musician. Her smooth and distinguishable vocals have already been compared to Alison Sudol of A Fine Frenzy and Colbie Caillat among others. She is in large a self-taught musician who has been writing her own music and lyrics since the age of 15, music that reflects a charming yet quietly explosive gift.

Lindsey Mae put out her first self-titled EP last year and says of it, "I put out that 5 track EP as an initial bam, here you go, here’s my music." And as an indicator of just how good her music is she landed the talented and renowned producer Hal Cragin for the recording who previously worked with industry greats such as Iggy Pop and A Fine Frenzy. Currently this dynamic duo is back in the studio together with plans to complete a full length album. Mae says, "We’ve been recording in between school and all that stuff 5 or 6 more tracks. And those are going to be added onto the initial 5 and we’re going to make a full length hopefully by next year." And Mae continues, "He [Hal Cragin] is such a creative and lively guy. Every time I go to record we always come up with these really intense ideas to throw into the music, or we come up with these really awesome accompaniments or rhythms."

Lindsey's love for music and the making of it started at an early age. Coming from an extremely musical background it was a natural progression for her. She began playing the clarinet in 3rd grade. By middle school she was watching her dad perform live with his band and picked up the bass guitar because of it saying, "I started playing bass guitar when I was in 7th grade and I switched over to the guitar when I went into high school and started turning poetry into lyrics." Determined to succeed she guided herself through the rigors of learning to play the guitar admitting, "In the beginning my dad gave me some basic steps, like basic chords to know. But for the most part I kind of just looked it all up on my own and taught myself." Among other influences she ranks KT Tunstall at the top, "She has so much power and her talent is amazing."

Presently the young rising star is focused on building her fan base one by one and learning to present and market her music. By day she studies Marketing and Advertising and by night she plays shows, writes music or records. She admitted to me, "I want to get to know the person that’s listening to my music. That way not only can I target my music if I’m not writing for myself but just know who I’m really captivating and capturing when I write my music. I definitely want to go for it and go big but I want to do it one by one." And by hitting it big she means, "Nora Jones is one of my all time favorite inspirations. She’s very, very famous but she’s not a celebrity. That’s where I want to be."

She is well on her way to finding that level of success. You can purchase Lindsey Mae's EP on iTunes or just check out her music on her Myspace page. If you like what you hear look for her full length album early in 2010.
