Irene Helenowski is statistical analyst collaborating with several biomedical researchers who lives and works in Chicago. She recently received her doctorate degree in Biostatistics from the University of Illinois – Chicago. Her interests include attending art exhibits and music concerts of all types, reading about current scientific advances and theory, and creative writing. She is also looking into foundations which help promote the sciences to youth groups.
How did you come up with the title of your book?
The Order is a sinister organization headed by a former Soviet spy, Anton Zelov, trying to gain control over all the dimensions within our world for our own means.
What is your writing environment like?
I write whenever and wherever I can, whether it's at home on my laptop or at work during my lunch break.
What is your favorite quote? Why?
I have a colleague who always says “Such is life” and I like that because life just happens and its what you make of whatever happens , whichever dimension you may be situated in.
How has your upbringing influenced your writing?
Coming from a close-knit Polish family and being influenced by the sciences when growing up made it natural for me to write a heroine with a similar background and similar interests.
What inspires you to write?
Anything that happens in my life could inspire me to write a story about it.
What do you consider the most challenging part about writing a novel, or about writing in general?
Trying to write in such a way to connect with the reader is challenging and I have had some reviewers who failed to find a connection which I must admit that I found a bit discouraging.
Did you learn anything while writing this book? If so, what was it?
I have started to actually try to learn about theoretical physics which is fascinating by itself and brings about an infinite number of 'what if' questions.
What have you done to promote this book?
I have done blog tours, interviews, guest posts, and sent out books to bloggers for reviews. It is tough emailing 10-15 bloggers a day and only getting one or two responses on a good day, but I keep trying.
What are some of the best tools available today for writers?
I would say just write from the heart about what interests you. And if you need more information or direction, you can always google the subject or look into books and magazines about it.
