I recently had the opportunity to interview a local interior designer and feng shui expert, Tamara Stone of Tamara Stone Interiors and Be Well, a Creating Wellness center in downtown Birmingham. Here are the answers she gave to my questions.
What is your background and what lead you to this business?
I am an Interior Designer and a Certified Feng Shui Practitioner. I have
had my own design business for the last 15 years and was certified in feng
shui in 2006. I am all about balance! I have always been interested in how
to make a space feel and look better.
How does holistic health apply to your business and your lifestyle?
I am extremely interested in holistic health and feel that your space either
supports you or drains you.
When your space is balanced you are able to perform all the things you were
meant to do. When your space supports you you are empowered to accomplish
all the things you are meant to do. You become a better partner, mother,
business owner, etc.
What makes your business unique and sets you apart from your
competition?
I offer interior design with the energetic work underneath. All my clients
feel the difference. Some are open to hearing about why I do what I do,
others simply benefit from the energetic balancing.
Does Feng Shui work for everyone?
Yes. Good interior design concepts, Feng Shui and a balanced space will
work for everyone.
Has the recession impacted your business, and if so, how have you
adapted?
Yes, I have made some changes within my business. I was working with
builders and developers with big projects and when that became quiet, I
shifted my focus to more individual work. I currently work with residential
clients providng them with personal service in design. I love to provide
personal shopping experiences to give them exactly what they need. I will
draw out the floor plan and we go shopping! I charge by the hour or project
and I am always looking out for the client. I search for sales and
products they will be thrilled with.
Is there anything you wish people knew about interior design that
they probably don't know?
Hiring a designer is less expensive than you may think and it is well worth
the investment. Ask for what you want and a good designer will deliver!
Great design is for everyone and Feng Shui is simple~once your have an
session, you can run with it yourself!
What do you like about being part of the wellness center Be Well?
I love empowering others to achieve a sense of Balance, Harmony and Purpose.
What is one of your favorite stories about a customer benefitting
from your service?
I once had a client who hired me to work on their living room and kitchen.
As we got into the job, we focused on their relationship portion of the
house and this allowed everything else to freely fall into place!
Are there additional resources you would recommend to someone who
in interested in learning more information?
I would highly recommend using a professional service to expidite one's
progress. Hiring a professional organizer is one of the best things you can
do and using a design service is well worth the investment.
