Yesterday, on Saturday Oct. 5, Examiner.com was on the scene at Heidi Klum's "Truly Scrumptious" for Babies“R”Us Fashion Show at Industria Studios. Heidi Klum showcased her holiday collection for Babies“R”Us as a part of Kids Fashion Week presented by Petite Parade and Vogue Bambini in New York City. Joining the fashionable mom of four were a group of young kids strutting their stuff down the runway to celebrate the first birthday of the line.
With lollypops and balloons everywhere, this colorful "Truly Scrumptious" collection can be summed up in one word: fun! As Heidi Klum mentioned, her main inspiration for the collection was fun. She then thought of color and incorporating pieces that would be comfortable and easy for moms to clean, yet fashionable and stylish for the kids. The first look for boys was a tuxedo pajama that immediately made everyone in the crowd say "awww." Heidi Klum said this was one of her childrens' favorite pieces. One of the little fashionistas in the front row said his favorite look was this tuxedo pajama as well.
The Van Kempen brothers said they liked the hot cocoa shoes and the funky cardigan ensemble with bright green headphones. Older brother François said that while he was too old to wear the clothes, he enjoyed watching the younger children walk the runway.
"My boys wear red pants or crazy color tops. My kids are more fashion forward in their own dressing," Heidi Klum said when describing her boys style. One of Heidi's favorite piece as well as her daughters, was the multicolor faux fur jacket that resembled a softer palette rainbow. Heidi said she liked it so much she had one made in her size. This jacket made the little model look hippie-ish yet age appropriate. Just like Heidi's daughter, the girls in the front row all loved the sparkly pieces.
Check out what Heidi Klum told reporters on the red carpet.
Do your children influence your day to day style?
My day to day wear not so much, like if I wear pants or dark clothes you know they don't get very impressed, but if I'm going to the Emmys and I am wearing a bright sparkly Versace dress then they go "OoO Momma!" Then they notice something is different.
What is the inspiration behind your line?
Fun! Fun clothes, colorful clothes, easy! I want moms to have fashion and a lot of style, but don't have to go to the dry cleaners. It's wash and wear. It has a spirit. It is very colorful, comfy. Great price point! One theme is rainbow, there is a faux fur jacket in rainbow. Boys are a little cooler than the girls. Sometimes I sneak in a fun piece to try and test the waters. My boys wear red pants or crazy color tops. My kids are more fashion forward in their own dressing.
You're a judge on "Project Runway," is it fun to be on the other side - presenting a collection?
I stand behind what I do and I think you have to and people either like it or they don't. I love it and I know sometimes I'm out there and I push the envelope a little bit, but I don't want to do basics, to me that's too boring I feel like there's enough stores out there that do basics and I want to do a lot of fun things.
How do you find time to balance everything?
If you love what you do, then you always find the time.
What styles do your children like?
My children love everything that sparkles. My boys just go with everything and make it their own, but my daughter is a little upset because she is 9 and I only go to 5, so sometimes she squeezes herself into a five and she is trying to make that work because she wants to wear it, too. There is one fury jacket that is faux fur multicolor, it's fun and bright and they loved the pajamas. There's one pajama that is a tuxedo for boys.
The collection boasts everything from red leopard coats and fleece jackets with hoods and capes, to printed leggings, adorable monster bow ties and snug hats, many of the items feature holiday-esque characters and colors. The collection is available exclusively at Babies“R”Us stores nationwide and at Babiesrus.com/HeidiKlum.
