Interview with gubernatorial candidate Lex Green (L)

Q: "Will you insist on Conceal-Carry for Illinois?"

A: "I will sign any law that makes Conceal-Carry or Open Carry legal."

Q: "What will you do to defend our 10th Amendment rights?"

A: I have signed the 10th Amendment pledge at the tenthamendmentcenter.com...I would use my powers as governor to bring our troops back home until the administration makes this a legal war...I would use all the powers of the governor to effect gun rights in Chicago..."

Q: "How will you deal with un-funded pension liabilities of state workers?"

A: "That is a contract with those workers. We cannot let them down even if we feel that some of those pensions are excessive. It is also in the Illinois constitution that [contracts] are to be held sacred. The only way I know to deal with that would be to reduce spending everywhere else."

Q: "Explain your position on the Putback Amendment."

A: "I am endorsing the Putback Amendment. I feel that we have a strong need to get rid of the corruption in Springfield and I feel that term limits are probably the only way to do that. The redistricting reform is also going to help. And I do like the unicameral legislative body."

Q: "How will you return Illinois to fiscal solvency and create jobs?"

A: "Reduce spending; cutting programs as much as I can. We have...bloated agenciessuch as the Department of Commerce, the State Board of Education. These are places where we can cut billions of dollars...And then I will also want to cut taxes...on corporations and on businesses."

Q: "Will you pledge to not raise taxes under any circumstances, and instead, make GOVERNMENT live within ITS means? If so, what should be cut?"

A: "Yes, I am making that pledge...My first year in office, I'd like to cut between 10 and 20% from every agency unless it gets into essential services...Eliminate the Department of Commerce."

Q: "Have you signed or will you sign the Manhattan Declaration?"

A: "Not knowing exactly what that says or entails, let me make a statement on [the general subject]. As a Libertarian I am for freedom, individual liberties...there needs to be a separation of church and state...I have no problem bringing [Christian] values to my position. However, my first allegiance is to everyone's individual liberties."

Q: "How will you improve education and what is your position on teachers' unions."

"Drastically reduce the role of the State Board of Education...I prefer that education be in the hands of local boards...As far as teachers' unions, I feel we need to modify the retirement picture for teachers...so that they contribute...with something like an IRS 457 plan. They have a right to representation, even if I don't always agree with the union."
