Here Messer describes her experiences of physically creating her art and her wonderful family collaboration:

L.C. Please describe how your process of physically painting on canvas compares with your process of digitally creating graphic design. How do these two experiences impact each other for you?

C.M. I love my daily job as a digital artist and instructor, and I love smelling the paint, painting on a canvas as well.

The natural media gives me another outlet, another artistic venue. I love painting in my studio early in the morning before going to teach a Photoshop or Illustrator class. I feel that working at the studio and still connecting to natural media makes me a better digital artist and a better teacher. I can transfer my artistic abilities to my students on a different level.

L.C. What inspires you as an artist?

C.M. I feel lucky to live in a great area, to have a studio in my backyard, and to get to paint whenever I have time. I feel lucky to have the digital knowledge and to meet interesting people through my work and through my teaching. I think that together, the combination is completing for me a circle that I never could have done before.

I feel lucky to have a great family that supports me in any way they can. My girls Gilli and Romi always give me ideas for new paintings. Also, I always ask them to look at new paintings and tell me what they think. My husband Stephen is always there, to help, carry, schlep the paintings, and to hang my art show! This is a family collaboration!
