On Feb. 9, 2013, singer and celebrity impersonator Carlene Mitchell shared about her recent show and her almost close encounter with another singer, icon Natalie Cole.
This award-winning tribute artist, and singer in her own right, paid tribute to Natalie Cole for an early Valentine's celebration on Feb. 8, and she was happy to say it went well.
Mitchell's amazing performance was held in Tavares, Fla. at Al's Top Shelf Restaurant.
Carlene Mitchell shared about the show she recently starred in.
"It was the first time that I performed a full show as Natalie Cole since I saw her in concert."
To this interviewer, though, Mitchell seemed even more excited to share about her attendance at another event. It was a recent concert headlined by Natalie Cole.
Natalie Cole, according to Wikipedia, is a singer, songwriter and performer who is the daughter of jazz legend Nat King Cole.
Daughter Natalie rose to musical success in the mid-1970s as an R&B artist with the hits "This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)," "Inseparable" and "Our Love."
In the 1990s, Natalie Cole re-recorded standards by her father, resulting in her biggest success, "Unforgettable... with Love," which sold over seven million copies and also won Cole numerous Grammy Awards. She has sold over 30 million records worldwide.
One can only imagine what it feels like for a tribute artist to have the opportunity to meet the person of whom they pay tribute. Here is Carlene Mitchell's story.
"Less than a week after I saw her (Natalie Cole) in concert, I performed a few numbers as a tribute to Natalie during my headliner show at Heidi's Jazz Club. Since her show, seeing her live has given me new inspiration towards the way I perform as Natalie which I will take with me [to each show I perform]."
Mitchell shares when and where she saw Natalie Cole perform.
"I saw Natalie Cole in concert about two weeks ago. It was in St. Petersburg, Fla. at the Mahaffey Theater."
The tribute artist's "plan" for meeting Natalie Cole revealed.
"I informed the venue a couple of days beforehand that I would be coming. Earlier that day I met with security, and they did manage to hand deliver my promo package to her. The package also contained a letter that I wrote letting her know that I am a Natalie impersonator, and that she was deeply in my prayers during the time of her kidney transplant.
I also wrote that I would like to meet her after the show. I briefly was able to get a word or two to Gail, her musical director. I waited patiently for security to say it was okay to go in. Unfortunately for me they reached their cap of the number of people allowed in the room, and I was unable to meet her at that time. I am hopeful that I will one day."
Not only is Natalie Cole a talented entertainer who fans want to meet, but so is Carlene Mitchell. This examiner has attended some of her shows and has watched the fans waiting in line to meet her as well!
Carlene Mitchell is nationally and internationally recognized for her performance, musical direction and choreography of tribute shows of which she has both produced and performed.
Natalie Cole is not the only singer that Mitchell portrays. Others she pays tribute to are Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross.
