Interview with band Jamie Law and the Outlaws

Jamie Law and the Outlaws is a young band based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The quartet formed in 2010 and consists of Jamie Law (lead vocals, acoustic, lyrics), Christian Massaroni (lead guitar, backup vocals), Sean Mclellan (bass guitar, backup vocals) and Corey Harrison (drums, backup vocals). It is my pleasure to feature them today.

Cendrine Marrouat: Hello guys, thank you for answering my questions. First of all, tell us a little more about you.

Jamie Law: Mechanic by day, musician by night.

Christian Massaroni: University student and self-professed music geek.

Sean McIellan: Jedi knight, music and movie buff.

Corey Harrison: The band's constant smiling face and source of energy and rhythm.

CM: How did you all meet?

JL: The four of us have been classmates since elementary school.  We didn't start making music together until near the end of our senior year.

CM: How did you come up with the name of the band?

CMa: The band originally started as Jamie's backing band, and we thought it was a fun play on words.

CM: You sample several legendary artists for your cover songs (e.g. Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash and Ronnie Hawkins). However, you also compose your own tunes. How do you usually work together?

JL: I write and/or learn the chords and lyrics then everyone else writes their own part, with their own twist. The band is really easy going yet they take the music seriously and are not afraid to tell me when something doesn't sound right.  Without these guys I know my music would be a lot different. I thank them for that!

CM: You can be spotted at Dylan O'Connors Irish Pub in Winnipeg every Monday night. How long have you performed there? Any favourite moment you would like to share?

CMa: Jamie started preforming there in August of 2010 and the rest of the band joined him as they turned 18. I'd say our favourite moment would be our recent feature night in which we had the opportunity to play for a large group of friends and family!

CM: Have you performed anywhere else in Manitoba or in Canada? And have you shared the stage with other artists?

JL: So far we are strictly Manitoba based, but we are veterans in the act of sharing the stage with other local talents. We've also been invited to preform at the Shine on Festival this summer!

CM: Despite being a young band, you seem to have quite a devoted fanbase. What is your secret?

SMI: We have a devoted fan base? It must be our chiseled good looks!

CM: What are your major artistic influences?

CMa: We are based in country, old rock 'n' roll and rockabilly, but each member draws influence from many other genres, including blues, rock, pop and folk.

CM: What do you want to achieve with your music?

JL: Overall, to become a staple of the local music scene.

CM: Are you working on a specific project?

CH: To be honest, no. At the moment we're just working on becoming the best band we can be.

CM: Where do you see yourself in five years?

JL: In rehab with our own TV show... No, seriously  we hope to have established ourselves in the local music scene and to have cut at least one EP.

CM: Where can people find more information on you and your music?

JL: Our Facebook page: facebook.com/jamielawantheoutlaws. And yes, it is "an" the outlaws we were one character short in the url...

CM: Any last words?

CH: Thank you very much for recognizing us and giving us the opportunity to share our music and our name with a wider audience!
