A native of Chicago, Tom Mengarelli is thrilled to finally bring Peter’s Rainbow to life.
This impressive children’s tale delivers the inspiring story of a young lad named Peter. Beautifully written by Mengarelli, Peter’s Rainbow is spiritually uplifting. Written with such remarkable lyric, the colors of the rainbow are defined.
As the story unfolds, the meaning of rainbows comes to life in vibrant detail. Manifested by which it is carried out in a theme of beauty describing for itself the glorious work of God. This epic tale is a beautiful account of appreciation of God’s gift to mankind; the rainbow.
Chicago’s Community Examiner spoke with author Tom Mengarelli who shared his thoughts on the book.
This story paints such a great picture of words illustrating the beauty of rainbows, where did you find your inspiration for this book?
Mengarelli explained, “Actually the book was written in 1989. It started out as a poem. I put it on the back burner for a while but the poem has always been near and dear to my heart.”
“Developing the poem into a story was a bit challenging at first, and then the story just came to life.”
The book has lifted many spirits. Several readers purchased copies to give away to others.
It’s been a source of encouragement. One reader purchased a copy to give to a friend who recently lost his wife. “I just want to encourage him,” she said. Another reader purchased copies to give to her fellow pre-school teachers.
Peter’s Rainbow is beautifully illustrated by Arkie Ring, a college student who brought the vivid colors to life.
“When I met Arkie about developing the illustrations, I knew instantly he would be the one,” Mengarelli said. “Arkie has such a gift. He created the art for the story.”
In this excerpt, the author partly describes the color blue.
“Blue is the most beautiful color
God’s favorite so I’m told
It has been around for so long
As the sky and the oceans are old
When you look up to the heavens at night
Think about what you might see
A deep blue sky filled with little white stars
And isn’t that as pretty as pretty can be”
Released in March 2011, Peter’s Rainbow is available on Amazon. Readers can also pick up a copy at the Book Bin in Northbrook or online at Createspace.
Mengarelli is currently working on his second book, Sara’s Puppy Doesn’t Bark. He hopes to release this book by the end of the year.
