Michael Aloisi is the author of two novels and a short story collection. He holds a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and has a film-making background. Several of his short films have received wide acclaim and a dozen of his live action children’s shows have been played around the world. He is also the founder of AuthorMike Ink, an independent publishing company.

Cendrine Marrouat: Michael, thank you so much for answering my questions. Tell us a little more about you. What do you do?

Mike Aloisi: I’m a writer, publisher and teacher. Those three things sum me up pretty well!

I write because… I have to. Writing is something I love and need to do, I don’t see myself every stopping.

I started a publishing company (AuthorMike Ink) because I wanted to give my fellow writers, who also have to write, a new outlet for their work that might not be mainstream enough for the big publishers.

And lastly, I teach because I love passing on the knowledge I have learned in my career. There is nothing more satisfying than having someone thank you for helping them find their own passion.

CM: You have just released "White Ash," a collection of short stories. The title is beautiful. What is the common thread to all the stories?

MA: Actually, my goal was to not have a common thread. One of the things I love to do in my own writing is challenge myself with different genres. Though I go back to a lot of the same themes in my writing, I really try to write vastly different things every time I sit down to tell a story. White Ash has twenty stories in it that range from weepy dramas, to borderline horror to complete oddball satire!

I know not everyone will love every story in the book, but that was my goal. I wanted to make a book where no matter how picky a person was, they’d find a story in there to like!

CM: You have also published two other books. Would you tell us a little more about them?

MA: "Fifty Handfuls," my first novel, is about a woman who feels guilty over the death of her husband, so she sets off cross-country to fulfill his final wishes. It’s a romantic, sad, drama. Most people who read it compare it to a Lifetime movie (a good one that is!).

"Mr. Bluestick" is about a little girl, Lilly, who moves to a new town where she has no friends. Bored, she starts to play in the woods behind her house. There she meets a man dressed in a tuxedo who carries a blue cane. She tells her family about him, but no one believes her; they all think he’s an imaginary friend. Though, when she goes missing…they realize he is all too real. It’s a creepy thriller/drama; a lot of people compare it to a Dean Koontz style novel.

CM: How can people purchase your books or find more information about you?

MA: My books are available at most bookstores (if they don’t have them in stock, ask and they will order it for you). You can also get them on countless website like Amazon, Barnes & Noble and others. Lastly you can get them directly from my own website, AuthorMike.com, where you can order autographed copies.

On my website, you can also read my entire bio (including my super-hero past… seriously, I was a super-hero), learn about the classes I teach, book me for a lecture and read monthly short stories!

And for those writers out there, check out AuthorMikeInk publishing. We are currently open for submissions and looking for the next great writer!
