Cendrine Marrouat: Where can people purchase "Before You Say Yes …"?

Doreen Pendgracs: The book is available at McNally Robinson Booksellers Grant Park and Chapters in Winnipeg. Tergesen’s in Gimli and Blaine’s in Selkirk also have it. And anyone can order online via the publisher’s Website.

CM: You have been an independent entrepreneur for 17 years, after working in the public sector. What are the main differences?

DP: As an independent entrepreneur, I am responsible for making decisions that affect my future. Working in the public sector unfortunately doesn’t allow one that same autonomy. You need to adhere to much red tape, which for a free spirit like me … isn’t always easy. I like being my own boss and making choices that affect my future, choosing the clients with whom I’d like to work, and the terms under which I will accept a contract.

CM: What is your ultimate goal through your writing?

DP: To make enough money to be able to support myself comfortably. It seems to be so difficult for those of us earning a living through our creativity to earn healthy livings. It shouldn’t be so, as arts and culture are such an integral part of everyone’s lives. We/society should value those artistic and creative contributions and then there would be no need for the phrase, “starving artist.”

CM: What is next for you?

DP: I am currently researching a book on chocolate and travel. What a great way to combine my passion for travel with my passion for fine dark chocolate. "Chocolatour: A Girlfriend’s Guide to Chocolate" will be published next year. Keep an eye on my Website for further details.

CM: Where can people find out more about you?

DP: I have a website and a blog. The Website contains a full bio and lots of sample stories I have had published in various periodicals and websites. My blog gives me an opportunity to write candidly about any topic that’s on my mind. I welcome readers to subscribe to my blog so that they can get weekly updates delivered right to their inboxes.

CM: Is there anything that you would like to add?

DP: There is a Facebook page for “Before You Say Yes …” which I invite readers to join (like.) On this page, you can read reviews and discussions about topics covered in the book. Readers can also ask me questions about volunteerism.

Here is the Table of Contents for the book and topics that I’ve covered:

Chapter 1 Suggests that you leave your hat at the door and put your allegiance with the board you are now representing.
Chapter 2 Tells you about fiduciary duty and due diligence.
Chapter 3 Talks about board governance and Robert's Rules of Order.
Chapter 4 Suggests the important of board training and board evaluations.

I’ve got some upcoming events where readers can meet me and get signed copies of BYSY.

Sept 18: I will be doing a group signing with Manitoba members of The Writers Union of Canada (TWUC) from 1-2 pm at McNally Robinson Booksellers in Grant Park, Winnipeg. I will be happy to sign copies of “Before You Say Yes …” as well as copies of the bestselling “Manitoba Book of Everything” – of which I am a co-author.
