Yesterday on Oct. 11, Examiner.com was on the scene at Z100’s Jingle Ball 2013 Official Kick Off Party, presented by clothing company Aéropostale. Z100’s afternoon ZJ, JJ announced the official star studded line up for the 18th annual holiday concert with a special performance by Austin Mahone. The official lineup of Z100’s Jingle Ball 2013 includes Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Pitbull, Enrique Iglesias, Fall Out Boy, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Selena Gomez, Fifth Harmony, Ariana Grande, Jason Derulo and Austin Mahone with more to be announced. Special guest hosts include Elvis Duran of the "Elvis Duran and The Z100 Morning Show" alongside the entire Z100 radio family, with more to be announced.
At the Aéropostale Times Square store, The morning show crew teased the crowd for over an hour with previous Mahone clips, and a live interview of the artist backstage. After Austin's loyal Mahonies had been tempted enough, the 17 year old artist stomped onto the stage ready to join his backup dancers with his single, "Say Something." With cheering fans screaming the lyrics to the song, Mahone stirred up the crowd even more by taking his leather jacket off, and transitioning into a sexy dance version of "Say You're Just a Friend."
Mahone took a romantic twist, by replacing the backup dancers for a stool and his red guitar. He set the mood by starting to sing softly "Heart In My Hand," while all the girls followed word by word. After receiving acceptance from the crowd to sing one more song, Mahone told the fans about how special this next song was to him, since it was the first song he uploaded in YouTube. When he began singing "Beautiful Soul," tweens and young adults alike sang in unison to the popular Jesse McCartney hit.
Now Mahone had the entire crowd's attention. He threw his guitar pick to the fans, and ended explosively with smooth dance moves to "What About Love." Fans Teddy and Anabella daughters of New York Real housewife Kelly Killoren Bensimon said, "We love Austin Mahone! He is very cute and we love his songs 'What About Love' and 'Say Something.'"
Examiner.com had the opportunity to interview Austin Mahone on the red carpet. Check out what he had to say:
What are you most thankful for this Thanksgiving?
Austin Mahone: For my VMA that I won, and I am most thankful for my fans who made that happen for me. I'm really excited.
What are your holiday vacation plans this year?
Austin Mahone: Probably just go back to Texas since I haven't been there in a while, and I also want to spend time with my family.
Are you dating anyone?
Austin Mahone: I am still single.
What are you going to be this Halloween?
Austin Mahone: I'm going to get an all black costume and I'm going to jump out of the trees and scare little kids and get their candy.
New Year's Eve resolution?
Austin Mahone: Getting a Grammy.
Do you have any collaborations coming up?
Austin Mahone: I am trying to work on a couple of collaborations. I would say my dream collaboration would probably have to be with Drake. I think he is an amazing artist. I am trying to work on that, and then I'm just trying to get my album perfect. I don't want to put it out and then be like, "Oh wait! I forgot something! I should've done this better." I want to make sure every detail is perfect. So I am trying to get it out by the end of the year, but if not, it will be out right at the beginning of the year.
How has it been working with Slim, Lil Wayne and Birdman?
Austin Mahone: Those guys are very professional they know exactly what they want. Working with Cash Money I have been teaming up with Universal and they are so supportive they have been helping me out with my career.
How special was it receiving that VMA?
Austin Mahone: It was very special! It was probably one of the coolest things that has ever happened to me. I mean I just have to thank the fans because I wouldn't have gotten it if they wouldn't have been there voting for hours and hours.
When you were younger, did you ever imagine you would get a VMA or a similar award?
Austin Mahone: Definitely not! No, not at all. I never saw myself being a singer and doing all these shows and going all these places, so it is crazy how all that happened so far. It's been amazing!
If you weren't a singer, what would you aspire to be?
Austin Mahone: Maybe try to pursue basketball, because basketball is my favorite sport.
What is your type of girl?
Austin Mahone: A girl that I can bring home to my mom
