We think you're near Los Angeles

Interview: Twenty30

After four years as a band, Twenty30 is still going strong together. Having released their third, self-titled EP this past summer, the band is looking forward to their future.

The band celebrated their four year anniversary this past Friday, January 20th, at The Delancy on the Lower East Side.

I had the chance to correspond with the band via email to find out more about the band, being together for four years, their future, the new EP, and being D.I.Y.

--How did the band form?

The short form answer to this is that we all met in the Philadelphia music scene, appreciated one another's talents and through a lasting friendship and mutual respect came together.

--Who/ what are some of your influences?

Our biggest band influences are: Deftones, Superchunk, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Alice in Chains, Radiohead and a lot of classic rock.

--You celebrated your 4th anniversary as a band on Friday night. How do you think the band’s music/ the band itself has changed over the last four years?

Over the last four years we have grown in our perception of tone and expanded our range strongly into the "Alternative" genre. Everyone freely gives input and we are much harder on one another to make a song complete, we never settle we always try and improve!

--What are you hoping for in the band’s next four years?

We are hoping to play bigger and better shows for our friends and fans in more areas across the east coast!

--What do you enjoy most about playing live?

Easy, seeing our friends we don't get to see as often as we'd like. Meeting new friends is great as well, and when we hear each other well it’s great to really feel like we are putting our best foot forward.

--Your bio says that you are a “DIY” outfit. What does DIY mean to you?

DIY to us means going out there with a real passion for the music we are making, no one is telling us how to make it, or what way to make it, we do it to make the music we love for the people we love. Every EP we've done has either been live or with the rhythm section live and we're proud of that, we like doing things our way and for us DIY means being proud of that.

--Could you tell me a little about the self-titled EP you put out this past summer?

The self-titled EP was an album we cut a little differently than our first two, we went with a live hybrid in which we set the speeds and dynamics with just the rhythm guitar and drums and then did the more accent instruments last. We recorded it in the basement we practice in for a year and it really felt comfortable. We really pushed ourselves to play better and more memorable. We also really tried to showcase the different takes on our sound as a whole.

--You have released three EPs to date. Do you have any plans to release a full-length?

We would love to record a full length, but the process is timely and costly to do it right, and we'd really want the right producer behind us to challenge our way of thinking and playing. Hopefully in the future we can make enough money to do this!

--What else do people need to know about Twenty30?

Every little bit of support matters, and we couldn't be doing any of this without you, so we really feel like we need to thank our fans for their support and we hope to see you on the road in 2012!
