This past Saturday dozens of natural hair, beauty, and fashion enthusiasts attended the 2nd annual Industry Standard Fashion show in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood. Held in the Lacuna Lofts, the Reverie Gallery was the setting for showcasing unique and handmade accessories, hair & body products, fashion and more. I had an opportunity to sit down with the women behind this popular event, The Monroe Sisters. Meechy and Ms. Vaughn shared their thoughts on the Industry Standard Fashion Show and more.
Margaux: What should people expect from the Industry Standard Fashion Show?
Meechy: “It’s all about inspiration, hair, fashion, style & beauty. There are eight different scenes and nine fashion designers collaborating on the show. We have vendors with product ranging from fashion pieces to accessories. There is a little bit of everything.”
Ms. Vaughn: “The whole package. The Industry Standard Fashion brings together fashion and natural hair. We want to encourage girls to be themselves and have their own style while being natural.”
Margaux: You both cover beauty overall on your YouTube channels. Is there an area that each of you enjoys more?
Meechy: “I started out with a natural hair focus, and now [I focus on] overall style from skincare, to hair styling, shoes, and outfits.”
Ms. Vaughn: “There is definitely a focus on makeup. I like to play around with makeup. I do my own makeup a lot of the time [including] today. [Makeup is] fun and creative.”
Margaux: Any plans to take the Industry Standard Fashion Show on the road?
Meechy: “We’ve been getting a lot of requests for that!”
Ms. Vaughn: “Right now we do events all over the U.S. Our first event was in Atlanta. The Industry Standard Fashion show is such a huge production; with so many moving parts [it would be difficult]”.
Meechy: “Possibly, in the Midwest like St. Louis or Kansas City in the future.”
