Tahmoh Penikett is accustomed to being a household name in the Sci-fi genre. He now finds himself part of the ‘Supernatural’ fandom with his brilliant roles as Ezekiel and Gadreel from season nine. This Yukon, Canada born actor is well known and loved for his role as Helo in 'Battlestar Galactica,' as well as Paul Ballard from 'Dollhouse.' Penikett has an impressive filmography including the film "Man of Steel,' ‘Continuum,' and 'Bomb Girls.'
Q. Can you tell your fans how the cast and crew welcomed you back to the set for episode ‘Meta Fiction?’
A. The fan response has been amazing since the first episode I appeared in aired. I have been in the genre universe for the majority of my career and become very familiar with genre fans and how passionate they can be. I can say with confidence that the SPN fans are something different. They LOVE this show and that quickly became clear from the hundreds of tweets and thousands of followers who hit me up on Twitter (which I've only been on for about a year and a half) the days following my first appearance as Ezekiel.
The cast and crew are great. The vibe on set is professional, but light and loving. These guys are all joking around and talking the piss out of each other whenever they can. It’s rare in this business, but a testament to the leads and the precedent they set on set with their attitude. Both Jensen and Jared took the time to introduce themselves and make me feel welcome.
Q. Tell your fans about your upcoming film called ‘Painkillers’ and any other projects that you have in the works.
A. I'm really excited about ‘Painkillers.’ It’s got the perfect balance of psychological thriller, drama, humor and kick ass action all rolled into one. It’s a story about a squad of Marines who after a mission seemingly goes awry in Afghanistan, all wake up in a hospital remembering little of what actually transpired there. As their memory starts to come back, the reality is far from what they thought.
Our Director Peter Winther was awesome! One of the most positive, funny and hard working people I've met. I was able to work with some amazing actors too, one being Colm Feore who's always been an idol of mine. Erica Durance and I finally got to work together again, she's such a sweet soul and talented veteran. I had the best experience with Lesley Ann Brandt. She's a quadruple threat, no joke. The woman can dance (ask Peter Winther about this), fight, act and has a beautiful singing voice to match. She's also incredibly funny and had the cast and crew cracking up regularly.
I can't wait to see the finished product! We had a blast shooting it and hopefully all the elements necessary for a kick ass, adrenaline fueled, psychological thriller for the audience to enjoy. We've got some other projects we're looking at, but nothing I can talk about yet.
