AZCAfilms in association with Kranky Heads Productions and Renacer Films put together a show called THE MIAMI FILM TRIO, which gathered their most recent work. This was the Opening night for all three of their films and it happened at the Colony Theatre on Lincoln Road, Miami Beach, just as Art Basel was closing activities to one of the busiest weeks in the arts for South Florida.
The Evening started with a red carpet pre-show, at the entrance of the Colony Theatre. All the actors and filmmakers of the night's show were present. Then there was the presentation of the three films: BRENDA, directed by Kamen Sway, Produced by Jhonny Obando and written and starred by Evelyn Jimenez, 30 DAYS, a film directed by Izzy Martinez, and Produced and written by Martinez with Edna Gutierrez and the show closed with the presentation of INTERVIEW ME, written, produced and directed by Agatino Zurria, starring Julie Ferrer.
There was a Q&A where the audience asked questions to the filmmakers, and the evening ended with an after party at the Polar Bar in Miami Beach.
Agatino Zurria, who wrote, produced and directed INTERVIEW ME, was asked about the curious approach he had to the story of a TV show host who suddenly sees herself answering too many questions.
"It was obvious to me from the beginning that Deborah was going to be in front of my camera for the length of the whole movie, so I didn't want anybody else to disturb the audience's focus on her character. So, eventually, the audience became the fourth wall, the character on the other side of the camera, asking questions and making Deborah react.
Julie Ferrer added: "Since I am a journalist, and at that time I wasn't working, I used this project as some kind of therapy. And it worked!"
Agatino then explained that the most difficult thing about making a movie "...Is actually being brave enough to stop thinking you can't make it. Once you break that insecurity, everything falls into place"
Interview Me was awarded Best Short Film at the Miami Life Awards last February 2011, along with Best Director Award for Agatino Zurria and Best Actress for Julie Ferrer. It has been co-produced by Jose-Gregorio Velasquez, who is also the Cinematographer and Editor of the film, and the Music is by Samuel David Naranjo.
