Interview: Country singer Josh Charles talks about new single 'Wasted on Love'

On Feb. 19, New York-based country singer Josh Charles chatted about his new single “Wasted on Love.” He described himself as a country artist who plays piano. “I am trying to bring piano back into country music and I am trying to make it current again just like Jerry Lee Lewis did back in the day,” he said.

“It’s a song that I co-wrote with the legendary songwriter Milton Brown. It’s a song about reaching the depths of darkness and then finding love. Instead of being wasted on alcohol and drugs, you become ‘wasted on love.’ It’s a really positive song. We are releasing it independently and it comes out next week,” he stated. “The main theme to the song is optimism. When you reach that lowest point, there is hope.”

In the future, Josh hopes to finish recording the tracks from his new album and they are also working on a 4-song EP. “We just came back from Nashville and we recorded with Blake Shelton’s band. We are trying to release this EP really soon,” he said. “I am so honored to have opened for Blake Shelton last year and to have been able to record with his band. I am really excited for the new music.”

Josh listed Miranda Lambert and Kacey Musgraves as the two female country artists that he would love to someday sing with. “Miranda is a true artist and she does exactly what she wants. Miranda does everything from the heart and she’s authentic and real. I really like Kacey,” he remarked.
