Intervention In Depth: Pot City, USA, on A&E

On Monday night, A&E will air Intervention In-Depth:  Pot City, USA, which will follow the Humboldt County Drug Task Force searching for illegal marijuana grows house by house (and there are said to be over 1000 homes growing pot in Humboldt County).

A lot of people think that Humboldt County in northern California is an American paradise. Small towns in the county like Arcata look like they've been plucked right out of a Norman Rockwell painting. But the town has a dirty little secret--law enforcement officials say that over 1,000 homes there may be growing marijuana illegally. Capt. Mark Chapman and the Humboldt County Drug Task Force are determined to take back the town, house by house. Our cameras follow as they make busts and fly over forestlands searching for hidden marijuana groves.

In my own humble opinion I feel the tax revenues from legalizing marijuana alone could have the potential to boost an economy. It would thin out the overcrowded court systems and make room in prison for the hardened criminals that really deserve to be there.

I watched the "Pot City USA" documentary last night on A&E. I couldn't believe the damages that the growers would do to the homes they would rent. I am studying to become an electrician and the one thing that I wondered most was how does all of this work go into a house without someone realizing the construction is being done and why do they not call the city/county to stop them from literally destroying these homes. When anyone does work to a house, especially that much work being done, a permit is necessary to be pulled and the construction cannot be completed without an inspection (this alone would solve the troubles with fires). Furthermore a commercial grow should never be done in a residential area, for the same reason nothing else that is "commercial" is being done in residential areas. I agree with the locals who lived there for years/decades and are complaining about the crime, smells, fires, and just all around danger. What I believe should be the answer is to literally comme

What I believe should be the answer is to literally commercialize the grows so they are allowed to rent out a large commercial office space/warehouse and then they can use a higher voltage to power there lamps and other equipment (which in turn will not use as much energy) plus they shall then hire a licensed electrician, plumber, and mechanical contractor to install the work it takes to undergo a commercial grow in a proper fashion (which will in turn stimulate the economy). I also believe that in order to undergo a commercial grow just like with any other profession the person should have to take classes and get a certification so he/she understands what they are doing and how they should do it in order to obey by the state law. Then the law can limit the amount of plants allowed by the resident of the county and then separately regulate the commercial growers (ex. 15 plants residential/100 plans commercial). Then if someone gets caught with commercial grows in a residential area, ta

This is a three part comment.

Then if someone gets caught with commercial grows in a residential area, take there assets and fine them. These commercial grows in residential areas are going to ruin what has finally gotten some grounds, marijuana reform.

This show was incredibly unrepresentative of what is actually going on. I already do not listen to most of what I see on TV and this show affirmed this for me. Here are a couple of simple points I would like to make in response to this rediculouse and unrealistic show.

    1. An intelligent commercial grower will never make a neighbor or especially a landlord angry in anyway (it's bad business plain and simple).

    2. Legal medical growers often have firearms to protect themselves from the criminal element. The same way that many Americans have guns in their own houses. If it's legal why is it the fault of the grower that they are being assaulted and tortured. The couple who is leaving their neighborhood should feel bad for their neighbor who had his home invaded and was tortured. How do you blame a tortured person for being tortured in their own home. Thats crazy! It would be similar if my neighbor blamed me for having his house robbed because my house has nice things in it.

i think that shows like this are a bunch of crap to sell ratings i actually live in arcata and yes i cant denie that there is alot of growing going on here but in a place were the average job only pays 9 dollars a hour what can you expect if you want to blam someone blaim the town for stopping growth plus you just look a more popular town in a area and just deam that one place when really there are much more pot coming from other countys. i live here and now people that live in areas that you showed that are quit mad about there house being showed and called a pot growing area expessally when they are people with lagitament jobs that work hard for there money so all iam really saying is look at the bigger picture before you are so quick to judge
