WINNIPEG ― Nellie McClung returning from the grave to watch a Winnipeg Jets game; Sal’s on the Bridge; the invisible women in Winnipeg’s history; immigration; war brides; and the erasure of aboriginal history in the region.
Winnipeg women and their stories are the theme of the 2012 International Women’s Week Cabaret of Monologues. The seventh annual event will take place on March 9 and 10 (8 p.m.), at the Colin Jackson Studio.
International Women’s Week Cabaret of Monologues was created by Sarasvàti Productions in 2004 to celebrate International Women’s Week and document the female perspective and experience through monologues from playwrights across Canada.
This year's line-up features a series of monologues created by Hope McIntyre, Sarasvàti Productions' Artistic Director, for Women’s History Month, as well as new pieces that emerging writer Jessy Ardern, Fringe favorite Ginny Collins, and past FemFest participants Cairn Moore and Talia Pura wrote specifically for the Cabaret.
Tickets for the performances are $10 and can be reserved by phone (586-2236) or at www.sarasvati.ca. In addition, the work is being offered to community groups looking for a unique way to celebrate women during International Women’s Week.
The Colin Jackson Studio is located at Prairie Theatre Exchange, 393 Portage Avenue, in Winnipeg.
