International Women's Day: Why women shouldn't celebrate with Democrats

See also

Today is International Women’s Day. While many people are celebrating around the world at the strides women have made over decades, there is one group that shouldn’t be celebrating – Democrats. Why? Democrats have systematically hurt women over decades with their ridiculous policies; fighting against women’s rights; creating economic environments that hurt women and by continuing to demean and belittle women for making them believe they need to be dependents of the government. Some facts below from the past to the present on how Democrat policies and behaviors have hurt women and continue to hurt women in 2014.

Let’s travel back in time to the Women’s Suffrage movement. It was Republicans who fought for women to gain the right to vote, not Democrats. Democrats actually fought against this because they were fearful women would vote Republican. From the New York Times in 1920:

CHICAGO, Feb. 14 - The National American Woman's Suffrage Association today came to the defense of Will Hays, Chairman of the Republican National Committee, who has been attacked by anti-suffragists for aid rendered to the suffrage cause, and congratulated the Republican Party "for having a Chairman who is astute enough to recognize the certain trend of public affairs and to lead his party in step with the inevitable march of human progress."

Then of course there were the progressive eugenicists like Margaret Sanger of Planned Parenthood notoriety (modern-day progressive eugenicists still exist):

“She sought to ban reproduction of the unfit and regulate reproduction for everybody else. She scoffed at the soft approach of the “positive” eugenicists, deriding it as mere “cradle competition” between the fit and the unfit. “More children from the fit, less from the unfit — that is the chief issue of birth control,” she frankly wrote in her 1922 book The Pivot of Civilization. (The book featured an introduction by Wells, in which he proclaimed, “We want fewer and better children…and we cannot make the social life and the world-peace we are determined to make, with the ill-bred, ill-trained swarms of inferior citizens that you inflict on us.”

Of course, women had the choice whether or not to take birth control and many didn’t realize Sanger’s true intentions of pushing it. It would be interesting to get Sanger’s take today on who exactly she felt was inferior or unfit to ‘breed’.

Now let’s stroll forward to the Democrat ‘War on Poverty’ - One of the biggest failed programs in the history of the United States that directly hurt women and their families. Not only did poverty increase but it created more women dependent upon the government:

What was the message of the social programs that came out of LBJ's Great Society?

One of the most devastating to the family was that if an unwed woman became pregnant, moved out of the home of her parents, did not name or know who the father was, then Big Daddy in Washington would provide for all her essential needs. Ergo she no longer needed a husband or the support of her family. In fact, the more children she had out of wedlock, the more money she would receive from the government.

The 'Great Society' hurt black women and families the most and still does to this day:

…That's the deal that the Great Society struck with low-income black women in the 1970s. The result: the marginalization of black men, an explosion of single-parent households, and the institutionalization of a near-permanent under-class.

Forty years ago, social scientists devised a clever euphemism to sum up the effects of a government program that picks taxpayers' wallets, weakens the family, and turns women into wards of the state: the feminization of poverty.

Let’s flash forward to the ‘Hope and Change’ Obama and Democrats promised to women in his first term (poverty is still at an historical high in his second term):

Since Obama Took Office, The Unemployment Rate For Women Has Increased From 7.0 Percent To 8.1 Percent. (Bureau Of Labor Statistics, Accessed 4/6/12)

Since The Stimulus Was Passed, The Unemployment Rate For Women Has Increased From 7.3 Percent To 8.1 Percent. (Bureau Of Labor Statistics, Accessed 4/6/12)

Since Obama Took Office, The Number Of Women Unemployed Has Increased From 5,005,000 To 5,863,000.(Bureau Of Labor Statistics, Accessed 4/6/12)

In March, The Number Of Women Employed Fell By 82,000. (Bureau Of Labor Statistics, Accessed 4/6/12)
"The Poverty Rate Among Women Rose To 14.5 Percent Last Year, Up From 13.9 Percent In 2009-The Highest Rate In 17 Years."(Leslie Bennetts, "Women: The Invisible Poor," The Daily Beast, 9/14/11)

The Extreme Poverty Rate - Income Below Half Of Federal Poverty Line - Is The Highest Ever Recorded Among Women."The 'extreme poverty rate' among women was the highest ever recorded, climbing to 6.3 percent in 2010 from 5.9 percent in 2009. 'Extreme poverty' means that your income is below half of the federal poverty line-and by 2010, more than 7.5 million women had fallen into that dire category." (Leslie Bennetts, "Women: The Invisible Poor," The Daily Beast, 9/14/11)

Food stamp use increased exponentially under Obama as well which also directly effects women and shows the desperation of many under Obama’s failed economy:

Unfortunately Obama’s economic “war on women” takes children as prisoners to his big government dependency scheme as well. While Obama continues to blame Bush and “headwinds” for his failings, it’s time women see him for what he really is – a big government dependency pusher who is actively waging an economic “war on women”.

One cannot neglect the war being waged on women by gun control advocates on the left:

Gun control advocates reduce a woman’s ability to defend herself by either banning guns or making it far more difficult for a woman to legally own one. They are creating a "Sad Sisterhood of Victims". Women who own guns are empowered because they can protect themselves. Women cannot rely on 911, rape whistles or restraining orders. Until there is a police officer at every woman’s door 24/7, women must be allowed to protect themselves if they choose to. By putting more restrictive gun laws into place, gun control advocates are aiding criminals while waging a war on women.

Of course, Granite Staters have their own share of special Democrats who want to be your ‘Big Government Nannies’ like Representative Annie Kuster who wants to regulate your behavior. There’s Representative Carol Shea-Porter who voted for the behemoth mess that is Obamacare and has hurt women’s health choice across the Granite State and the country. It is interesting when you consider how much Democrats scream and yell that the government should provide free abortions and birth control to women yet want the government to stay out of their 'lady parts'. Senator Shaheen must not be forgotten for her ‘lie of the year’ when she told voters that they’d be able to keep their plans if they liked them when she passed Obamacare. Thousands of women in New Hampshire lost their plans, doctors and hospitals thanks to Democrats.

There’s much more that could be discussed here and there will be more coming as long as Democrats are in power. It’s sad that many women don’t know the truth about a party they support. Unfortunately whether willingly or as victims of the media, they fall into the low-information voter trap and don’t verify information they are told. When Democrats are in power women lose more freedoms both personally and economically. When Democrats are in power more women fall into poverty and dependency on the government. It’s International Women’s Day today but women in the United States shouldn’t be standing with Democrats to celebrate – women should be rejecting Democrats for their very long history of standing against them. Women should be rejecting Democrats for putting policies into place that keep them down and dependent.
