Northeast Ohio International Women's Day in Cleveland

The importance of investing in women and girls will be the focus of an International Women's Day Conference Saturday, March 9 from 9am to 5pm at the Cleveland Clinic Lyndhurst Campus at 1950 Richmond Road in Lyndhurst.

International Women’s Day is March 8 and is recognized as an official holiday in approximately 25 countries. It has been celebrated since the early 1900s.

The theme of the Cleveland 2013 conference - Investing in Women and Girls - will address key issues that affect women globally, while bringing together a group of culturally-diverse women to discuss their ethnic heritage, learn from each other, find common ground and plan for future events.

"When people come to this conference, they will leave feeling enlightened, encouraged and inspired," said Norma Ashong, Executive Director of Angelhands of Northeast Ohio.

The event is a cultural and educational conference with three keynote speakers addressing issues all women might face on a daily basis. They are:

  • Arbi Kala, Vice Pres., Branch Manager & PNC-Certified Women's Business Advocate - financial security
  • Margaret Wong, Esq. Owner and President of Margaret Wong and Associates, a nationally-known accomplished immigration attorney - women empowerment and overcoming adversity
  • Dr. Margaret Larkins Pettigrew, of University Hospitals - health issues affecting women

There will be demonstrations, highlighting many cultures, presentations and activities such as Salsa, Hawaiian Dance, African and East Indian Dance. There also will be clothing and head-wrapping demonstrations, as well as a cultural fashion show.

Vendors will offer affordable jewelry, beauty products and fashions from around the world. There will be door prizes and your $10 entry ticket qualifies you to enter a drawing to win:
