International Women's Day Celebrations in Dallas

The Dallas Women’s Coalition (DWC) Words of Women, a grass roots organization in Dallas, helps address the needs of girls and women. The organization, directed by Christine Jarosz, provides opportunities through programs, support and education. During Women’s History Month in March, Words of Women presents their 11th Annual Dallas Celebration on March 2, 2013 and also on International Women’s Day March 8, 2013.

DWC’s International Women’s Day 2013 celebration is about fun, food and conversation. After a contentious and divided presidential election where many felt there was a war on women, it is important for women to feel empowered, to have role models and inspiration. DWC will celebrate the strides women have made through the years and discuss ideas for women for the next 100 years.

This event also features art and essays by women, cultural displays and exhibits, a mini silent auction, music and entertainment and speakers on the status of women around the world. Located at the beautiful and historic Bath House Cultural Center on White Rock Lake, this event is free to the public, but $10 donations will help cover costs. Parking is free.

The Women’s Museum at Fair Park in Dallas, a voice for women for 11 years, closed in early October 2011. After 1.5 million visitors the museum’s financial problems finally forced the closure leaving a void for women in the DFW metroplex. Although the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame represents many important women such as former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, the closing of the Women’s Museum at Fair Park in Dallas is viewed as a slowing of momentum for women’s issues and recognition. The DWC is a welcome voice in the metroplex that honors women, encourages development and education. Volunteers needed: contact (214) 319-6696.
