It's not an annual event, so it's always big news when the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) announces that another International Women & Motorcycling Conference (IWMC) is in the offing. That announcement just went out. The last IWMC was held in 2009 in Keystone, CO.
The 2012 IWMC will be held July 26-29 in Carson City, NV. Registration for AMA members is $125 through April 30 and $175 after. Non-AMA members will pay $235 to register after April 30. Considering that a basic membership costs $39, it really doesn't make any sense to register as a non-member. Just join, but do it before April 30.
In the announcement, the AMA calls Carson City "one of the absolute best riding destinations of the West!" What they're really saying is that Lake Tahoe is close by, Yosemite National Park is just 75 miles away, and the Sierras are everywhere to the west. Don't plan on making many day rides headed east.
The conference is made up of numerous seminars on a variety of motorcycle-related topics, presentations by speakers who are prominent in the motorcycling community, rides, and dinners/parties/banquets. The actual line-up has yet to be announced. While attendees are predominantly women, there is no shortage of men on hand as well.
The IWMC is definitely a ride-in event. Come without a bike and enjoy and benefit from the seminars and such, but you'll be sorely wishing you had a bike to ride.
