The top ten division 2 teams participated for first, second, and third place August 15-17 in Duluth, Minnesota for the international WFTDA Division 2 (D2) playoffs. D2 playoffs were held at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center and hosted by local Minnesota roller derby league the Harbor City Roller Dames. The winners of D2 playoffs will advance to international 2014 WFTDA Championships in Nashville, Tennessee in November to fight for Division 2 Champions. The ten leagues that participated in D2 playoffs are: St. Chux Derby Chix (ranked 43) from O’ Fallon, Missouri (USA), Detroit Derby Girls (ranked 44) Detroit, Michigan (USA), Big Easy Rollergirls ranked (48) New Orleans, Louisiana (USA), Brewcity Bruisers (ranked 49) Milwaukee, Wisconsin (USA), Fabulous Sin City Rollergirls (ranked 52) Las Vegas, Nevada (USA), Tucson Roller Derby (ranked 53) Tucson, Arizona (USA), Omaha Rollergirls (ranked 57) Omaha, Nebraska (USA), Treasure Valley Rollergirls (ranked 59) Boise, Idaho (USA), Suburbia Roller Derby (ranked 62), Westchester County, New York (USA), and the Brandywine Rollergirls (ranked 63), Downingtown, Pennsylvania (USA). While “international” was part of the official title for these WFTDA playoffs, competing teams were all representative of the same country: America. After an intense weekend tournament, three of the ten teams will advance to WFTDA Championships in November. The Detroit Derby Girls, who entered the tournament ranked 44th, took first place at the playoffs. In addition to capturing the first place spot in the playoffs, Detroit’s Racer McChaseHer was voted tournament MVP. The final standings at the conclusion of the international WFTDA Division 2 playoffs are as follows: Detroit Derby Girls take the first place spot, the Fabulous Sin City Rollergirls come in at second place, St. Chux Derby Chix take third, New Orleans’ Big Easy Rollergirls come in at the fourth spot, fifth place is claimed by the Treasure Valley Rollergirls, Suburbia Roller Derby comes in at sixth place, the Brewcity Bruisers take seventh, the Brandywine Roller Girls jump two spots to eighth place, the Omaha Rollergirls fall in behind Brandywine at ninth place, and Tucson Roller Derby claims the tenth spot. The Detroit Derby Girls, Fabulous Sin City Rollergirls, and the St. Chux Derby Chix will all advance to WFTDA Championships.
