Now that the World Cup is history, European teams are busy preparing for the kick off of the new season next month. As we saw during the recent tournament, more and more Americans have embraced the game and the popularity of some of the most prestigious European leagues has been growing steadily over the years.

Furthering this point is the fact that NBC Sports outbid Fox and ESPN for the right to broadcast English Premier League matches. While Fox was the first broadcaster in the country to show the EPL, NBC saw the potential for a huge revenue boost and secured the rights to telecast EPL matches for the next three years with a $250 million offer.

In an April New York Times article Alex Williams put it perfectly,

After years of being greeted as the Next Big Thing that wasn’t, the sport (particularly England’s Premier League, with its enhanced presence on American television) has become a conversation topic you can no longer ignore.

That being the case, many European teams are using this increased popularity to market their brands in the states. It’s become common to see some of the big name clubs from Europe play exhibition matches stateside as part of their pre-season preparations. This year is no different.

Here’s a look at some of the key pre-season matches featuring teams from England and other parts of the European continent:
