After his success winning best actor award at the Newport Beach Film Festival in 2011 with his starring role in "Subject: I Love You," Filipino actor and heartthrob Jericho Rosales returns to the international film festival cricuit with "Breakaway" (Alagwa).
The film he co-produced garnered attention at the Busan Film Festival and will debut in the U.S at the 2013 Palm Springs International Film Festival this weekend with two screenings along with a q&a session. Rosales explained to this writer's associate, Pacific Rim Video/Front Row Features Wire correspondent Chris Trondsen that the film follows the life of a father dealing with the kidnapping of his 9-year-old son played by Bugoy Carino.
Rosales added, "I've been wanting to work on a story like this. I'm a great fan of Will Smith's "Pursuit of Happiness" and I've been praying for a project like that. This came with a heavier content. It's about human trafficking. Not content but a greater problem. It's a little bit political. It really happens so I said, "Let's Do It!'"
"Breakaway" has also received critical notice by the trades in Hollywood. Deborah Young of "The Hollywood Reporter" said, "Breakaway is a low-budget standout. This sophomore effort […] is not only a powerful film about human trafficking; it is also a small gem portraying a father-son relationship with nothing fake or sentimental about it.”
Rosales has already hit the red carpet running in Southern California as he made an appearance on KSCI Channel 18's long running daily Filipino-American community show "Kababayan LA" hosted by Jannelle So. The evening before, Jericho Rosales met up with local media outlets for interviews and photo ops. Rosales will be ready for his sprint onto the red carpet at the Palm Springs International Film Festival as he answers questions about the film after its North American debut.
Jericho invites all film goers to watch the film. "I really learned a lot from the film - script wise, production wise. There's always a lesson learned and this has a great lesson. I strongly suggest that you watch the film."
