International disabilities day is on December 3. People with disabilities are to be recognized and remembered. Not every country is as educated about disabilities as others.
Unfortunately, there are thousands of people with disabilities who do not have the same opportunity as we do. The care is limited and those who have disabilities are often left behind. Talents go unrecognized.
In America, things continue to develop for those with disabilities. No, it is not perfect but even compared to 30 years ago, the situation has greatly improved. Technology has developed, wheelchairs improved and social barriers continue to collapse. Hope is alive.
There are still improvements needed to be made. Employment of those with disabilities is still very low. Despite the ADA many places remain inaccessible. Handicapped parking is not taken seriously. Attitudes are slowly changing but some are still in the dark ages.
On this International Day of Disabilities, think about those all over the world with challenges. Be thankful for what you have and help others less fortunate.
