In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Beatles appearance on the “Ed Sullivan Show” and their first visit to the U.S. in 1964, Penn State is hosting an international Beatles conference at Altoona College on February 7-9, 2014, called “It Was 50 Years Ago Today!” The three-day conference will include keynote addresses by Beatles experts, panel presentations, film screenings, live music, art and photography exhibits. The conference includes a commemorative screening of the Beatles’ appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show as it was originally broadcast on February 9, 1964 on the exact 50th anniversary.
Speakers will include top Beatles historian Mark Lewisohn, author of latest Beatles tome “Tune-In,” music theorist Walter Everett, Beatles instrument expert Andy Babiuk, and John Lennon Series author Jude Southerland Kessler.

The 2014 “Fest for Beatles Fans” will take place in New York City February 7-10 to commemorate the spot the Beatles first visited in the U.S. Authors Mark Lewisohn and Jude Southerland Kessler will also be appearing there along with many other notable authors and musicians. (Read full story here.)
