International airport security has changed, but domestic airport security is the same after terrorist attack. Passengers bound for the US have stricter airport security rules, after yesterday’s attempted terrorist attack, but domestic US airport rules have not changed Saturday.
The Detroit airport has tighter security Saturday and additional screening measures after the attempted attack, but airport rules have not changed, according to TSA.gov. But the additional measures have caused delays at the airport.
Northwest Airlines flight # 253 from Amsterdam to Detroit, Michigan set off a small device and attempted to blow up the airplane. Instead, Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab set off a small fire in his lap, and he was arrested Friday. For more on that story and how he was apprehended, click here.
Additional security measures including body searches are being conducted in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Yemen and the United Kingdom.
A spokesperson for the Dutch National Coordinator for Counterterrorism said: "The extra measures apply worldwide on all flights to the US as of now and for an indefinite period."
Changes were not immediately made, because it was thought that Abdulmutallab set off a firecracker on the plane, and it took some time to determine that it was a bomb like device.
