Billy Sawyer is an interim head coach no longer.

Sawyer has been promoted to full time head football coach at Perry County, Viking Principal Michael Rhodes confirmed.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to run the program and it's a big relief for me and the kids because there is some stability now," Sawyer said.

Sawyer was named the interim coach last year when Michael Harrison resigned two weeks before the regular season started.

The Vikings were 3-7 last season

"We have interviewed candidates and Coach Sawyer stood out," Rhodes said.

Before getting the head coaching nod, Sawyer was the defensive coordinator and coached the offensive and defensive lines for the Vikings for the last eight years.

Sawyer has seen the Viking program have success as The Vikings made three straight Class 1A playoff appearances (2009-11) and Perry County made the Semifinals and produced a school record best 11-2 record in 2010.

The last two seasons have produced a 5-15 record.

Currently there are open jobs at Hickman County, Hixson, Whitwell, Middle Tennessee Christian, Clay County, Bolivar, Fairley, Clarksville Northwest, Ezell Harding, Red Bank, Clarksville, Unicoi County, Nashville Overton, Marion County, Chattanooga Central, Jackson Christian and Knoxville Central as schools currently looking for a head coach.
