NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., has teamed with nonprofit Space Generation Advisory Council to host a world space party on April 10. This intergalactic get-together will celebrate humanity’s achievements in space. The party, Yuri’s Night DC, will be held at the Goddard Visitor Center and attendees will celebrate in a club atmosphere with a future-tech twist.
Yuri's Night is a worldwide celebration of the anniversary of mankind’s first foray into space and the first flight of the Space Shuttle. Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first person in space on April 12, 1961. Twenty years later, NASA launched Space Shuttle Columbia.
Yuri’s Night DC will feature regional music stars, Bellflur and their multi-layered, pop sounds through exploded views of galaxies and NASA exhibits. Mark Branch, aerospace engineer by day, DJ Scientific by night, will fuse electric beats with the night air on the Yuri’s Night dance floor.
Galactic attire is a must at Yuri’s Night and guests will enjoy great activities like a game show with a rocket scientist, an intergalactic fashion show, and characters from the Star Wars universe. Beer, wine, and refreshments will be available for purchase.
Event goers must be at least 21 years old and a government issued ID is required for admittance. Tickets are available for purchase now at: http://dc.yurisnight.net/2010/tickets.html. Tickets are $10 in advance and $20 at the door.
