You might love drinking coffee from Starbucks, but there are so many things you might not know about the Seattle-based coffee chain.
Here are some interesting things about Starbucks according to Woman's Day magazine:
- There are 16,300 Starbucks stores around the globe.
- Starbucks got its name from a character in Herman Melville's novel, Moby Dick.
- Starbucks has 87,000 coffee combinations.
- Smiling is part of every Starbucks' job description.
- Starbucks opens two or three new stores daily.
- The small tables are circular so there won't be any “empty” seats for customers dining alone.
- All stores are designed alike according to one of three patterns.
- There are more sizes of coffee than are posted on the menu. The 8-ounce cup called the "short" may not be listed as an option, but it’s known as the “kid’s size." Starbucks may soon be adding a size larger than the venti to its iced drink menu. Starbucks is testing a 31-ounce cup size called the "trenta" in Phoenix to be used as early as March of 2012.
- The posted Starbucks hours are not actually true. Some stores open at 5 a.m., others open at 8 a.m. No matter what time Starbucks is scheduled to open or close, it abides by the “10-Minute Rule” that requires each store to open its doors 10 minutes before the posted time and close 10 minutes following the closing time.
- Starbucks will begin selling beer and wine in some of its stores soon.
