On February 14, every year millions of people exchange heart-shaped boxes of chocolate, flowers and “valentines” to express their romantic desire for each other.
As we discussed in previous articles, Valentine’s Day has its origins in paganism just as do other Christian religious holidays. And even though the origin of Valentine’s Day goes back to Roman and Greek gods and goddesses, the Catholic Church adopted it as a holiday to celebrate St. Valentine who was martyred in Roman Days.
- What about Cupid? From where did he originate?
- “In Roman mythology, Cupid (Latin cupido, meaning "desire") is the god of desire, affection and erotic love. He is the son of goddess Venus and god Mars."

Were these people taught to abstain until marriage? NO! Do as you please, but then you suffer the consequences! Most people do not realize that contracting a sexual disease during illicit sex is more likely than getting pregnant!

What does God say about these holidays that worship different gods and idols?
"When the Lord your God cuts off from before you the nations which you go to dispossess…do not inquire after their gods, saying, 'How did these nations serve their gods? I also will do likewise" (Deuteronomy 12:29).
Clearly it doesn’t make Him happy!
What are the consequences of breaking His instructions and His Commandments?
“And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.” (Romans 1:28-32 NKJV).
And eventually if not repented of this is what will happen!
“But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie” (Revelation 22:15).
