If wondering what the Surveillance Investigator job involves, more or less, you will be requested to perform the following tasks:

  • Discreet Supervision: in case of any claim (insurance claims etc.), an investigator shall be requested to survey the person in question and identify relevant evidence.
  • Cross Checking: Evidence and sound data shall be requested to substantiate any claim and investigators should act accordingly.
  • Interviewing: In order to perform a complete job, it is possible that interviewing with relevant persons shall also be requested. This requires a special ability for the investigator to manage to elicit the relevant information and exclude the irrelevant.
  • Video Documenting: It is possible, in order to support a claim or to prove it inaccurate or false, for a video documentation to be required. Investigators should be able to video record any such case.
  • Testifying: The collected data probably shall need to be presented in a Court of Law. Investigators shall need to have the clarity of mind and a fluent language to perform this task as well.
  • Produce Reports: reports need to be produced supporting the case and providing all the relevant information. They have to be to-the-point and accurate.
  • Organizing: this is the beginning and the end of a good investigator. Evidence shall need to be properly organized and well detailed. This is, often, a major issue.

  • 24/7: Investigators do not really have a personal life. When duty calls, they shall have to be available 24/7, they shall have to work overnight, they shall have to deal with demanding and, sometimes, dangerous tasks.

Overall, the job is demanding but it is a proper job for those adventurous and insightful people who love their career.

Candidates for this job are usually requested to generally have the ability to meet deadlines, be willing to travel frequently, be specific and accurate when describing cases and, most important, to be discreet and have a strong ability to observe details.
