Janet Gohres was crafting a nest from clay for a small ceramic bird. This little project was small in scale compared with her usually life-size and larger-than-life interpretations of nature produced in pottery and print.
She met her husband pursuing butterflies together, if recall. She is at one with nature including her back yard in Falls Church that is a small tribute to nature preservation and ecology.
I would like to see one of Arlington parks and nature centers show Janet’s work. You can usually see it at Lee Arts Center arts festival events, but Janet’s work needs to have exposure among people who share her affinity for birds, fish, insects and all sorts of living things. I can share some pictures of the work, but it is best to see it up close.
I will keep you posted about when and where her work will appear.
“When I am in the woods, I sometimes find animal and bird skeletons. I carry plastic bags in case I find something good because I know someone who can make something of it, Janet Gohres.
She finds inspiration from both living and dead things. She is a scientist by academics and an artist and potter by skilled crafts. Check out the living and dead.
