Martial-Art Schools from across the country are feeling the heat to upgrade their fighting system or to change their style to offer an extensive Martial-Arts Self Defense System that will provide many students of different options towards Self-Defense. What became of this influence, is truly to the image of which Mixed Martial-Arts has portrayed on television, as cable companies are marketing the sport not only for entertainment, but for future fighting champions to set a role about fighting. Since the 1990’s, UFC matches had had a strong influence on its viewers who were able to watch on Pay-Per-View events, which has now dominated boxing matches than ever before.
While the time many experts of their different styles were trying to prove what was the better style that proved to be effective. Since each expert of their style had their interpretation to what worked, or what did not, to what is effective, to what would win the fight, now many Martial-Art schools are being either influenced or had different theories of thoughts to teach their students not only grappling, but to be effective in street self-defense. As various of Self-Defense Systems are adding weapons self-defense, or cross training with other styles of Martial-Arts, the roots are basically the same, to end the fight with a single goal, to not become the victim.
Various of schools or styles have always had traits of street self-defense, since the style branches out from one system to another. Nothing new has really been changed, or modified, only a reality to what was never added or expanded on, since each style has its system of managing a fighting art for self-defense. What has changed in various of schools, not only teaching women to fend off against a male suspect, but grappling styles such as Hapkido, Jiu-Jitsu, Aikido, Wrestling, and other grappling systems is being taught world wide. Not only being able to fight or defend in a grappling situation, but being able to make hand strikes and kicks to become more effective, but to be able to use a weapon in a disarm situation to even use it against the aggressor of an attack.
Due to cultural influences of Media, Television, and Public Relations, many martial art schools are not necessarily changing their fighting systems, or modifying, but only adding to their style to improve the quality of the students training. As they say change is a good thing, the only thing that has changed is the theology and philosophy towards self-defense, and to be aware of an individuals surroundings in a struggling situation to survive and to stay alive.
