Insurance: To be or not to be, that is the question

I'm a little dramatic in saying "To be or not to be, that is the question" but when it comes to insurance, I find a lot of confused consumers. Do you really need insurance? It depends. In Arcadia Missouri you have several options for insurance companies.

What type of insurance are you buying?

Car Insurance:  A requirement in most states

If you shop around you can get a bargain.  I couldn't believe my eyes and ears when I checked online to receive quotes for a new car purchase.  I received unlimited quotes.  The quotes varied from one price to another. It was a strange experience to say the least.  My final conclusion, I like "Progressive". I know it's not the Flo commercials either, it was their customer service and competitive pricing.

I used to use "Safe Auto". In my opinion their customer service lacked big-time.  I had a question once and the lady was entirely rude. When she asked for my address, because we don't have an actual location address at a private lake house we own, I didn't know which address I had given her.  I went through all of my addresses, a home address, and a business address and because I didn't give her the correct address the first time (regarding a previous policy that I was considering renewing) she merely told me I was locked out of the information and would have to send me something. I told her it had to be one or the other and come to find out it was the second address I gave her. Because it wasn't the first address I gave her she was a real stinker in my opinion, totally blowing my mind, almost ruining my day. Luckily I am more patient than threatening to kick her butt through the phone lines. I would never do such a thing :)

Home Insurance:  This is a big one.

Who really buys home insurance? I know I can't seem to purchase any for the lake house.  At best I can get renter's insurance here in Florida (the home I rent when the weather in Missouri gets cold).  It was easy to get renter's insurance here in Florida, I'm fully covered, but in Missouri because I own my home and it's outside of the city limits and 6 miles away from the Firehouse, nevermind I'm on a 175 acre lake) they can't or won't insure me.  If anyone out there can recommend a good homeowner's insurance please advise.  It's very difficult, and often very costly to insure your home. The best insurance you can have that will assure you a home for life is buying a second home.  No kidding, it might sound crazy but a small home or condo in Florida now, because of the housing crisis can run from 15K up. Yeah I know it sounds totally crazy-low pricing but it's true.

The home I live in and rent right now values at around 80K and where I'm from it would value at almost 200K.  So anyone who can't afford home owners insurance, pack your bags and move to Florida. As soon as I can save enough money I'm out of this beauty of a rental house and putting my money into an asset that may pay off someday vs. rent which equals paying someone else's home off.  Home owners insurance isn't too available or too affordable here in Florida. Maybe I can sell the house to my son and rent it back.  Moral of the story, if you're paying 4K a year for homeowners insurance then invest in a Flordia home and have your house paid for in around 5 years. That's putting your insurance where your brain is.

There is plenty of other insurance we can get. I hear Kim Kardashian insures her body.  Oh but that ever-so-needed insurance.  To be or not to be, that is the question.
