INSTUDIO Interior Design Directors Samuel Fleming Lewis & Stephen are exhibiting artists as well as interior designers. Primary to both professions are artistic foundations of proportion, balance, rhythm and relevance. Lewis and Kladder are active in artistic communities and encourage their interior design clients to meet artists and use locally produced original art as a foundation of personal style.
During San Francisco’s Hunters Point Shipyard Artist spring open studios event http://shipyardartists.com/category/events/ the designers can often be found visiting artist friends at their studios that are not located far from where the two designers live and work. Samuel and Stephen often accompany design clients to the weekend event so they can meet artists and get exposure to a wide variety of art.
For several years on the occasions when Lewis and Kladder have new bodies of their own art work to exhibit the two host “UNOFFICIAL OPEN STUDIOS” at their interior design studio. Both have been prolific in the past year. KLADDER’S Fragment series of portrait drawings and mixed media work has been expanded. His new paintings abstract nature with the eye of a colorist. LEWIS has spent the last year composing black & white abstract paintings inspired by African patterns and motifs. He also pushed his own boundaries with paintings on vintage globes and a series of paintings on magazine pages.
