Inspiring movie spotlight, Super Bowl special: Football feature films

The Seattle Seahawks will be inspiring their hometown and the sports world with their unstoppable Super Bowl win on Sunday. The chant around Seattle can now go from “Go Hawks!” to “Super Bowl Hawks!”

So in honoring Super Bowl inspiration, this movie spotlight edition features a few great football films that will keep team spirit rolling.

The Blind Side (2009)- This film is based on the true life story of Super Bowl NFL Baltimore Ravens player Michael Oher, who survived a childhood of transition, to find a new life with the family who befriended him. The Blind Side won an Academy Award nomination for Best Film, and starred Sandra Bullock who won the Best Actress award for her role. Rated PG-13, some violence and drug references.

We Are Marshall (2006)- In the tragic wake of losing most of Marshall University's football team, coaching staff and many community members, one coach helped them continue on, and rise to victory once again. This true story DVD also includes a wonderful feature showcasing interviews with winning sports coaches. Rated PG, there is a devastating crash scene and some language.

Remember the Titans (2000)- Based on a true story, this film depicts the racial tensions within a community, high school, and their football team, after the state of Virginia’s public high schools were consolidated as part of court-ordered desegregation. Despite the set-backs and struggles, this team from T.C. Williams High School went on to win the Virginia state championship in football. Remember the Titans stars Denzel Washington and Will Patton. Rated PG, some intense conflicts.
