Dakota Fanning & Gabourey Sidibe for V Magazine
Inspiration makes photos that stand out. As a photographer, searching out new ways to do things as well as taking notes from established photographers is key to remaining relevant and fresh. Here are a few highlights of fresh new ideas, as well as a few to take notes on.
Recently I stumbled across www.runningfromcamera.blogspot.com, and found the concept not only amusing, but interesting. It’s currently a one man operation out of Europe. His instructions are simple. Set the camera up on a tripod/surface, set the auto-timer for 2 seconds, and then run as fast as possible. So far, he has 104 images, all in different locations across Europe. It’s definitely a good way to take interesting photos. This would be a good twist on a 365 project.
Also making waves in the photography world is V Magazine’s Size Issue. Argue whatever you want about the size standards, but there’s no denying the photography is amazing. Gabourey Sibide, star of “Precious:Based on the novel Push by Sapphire” is large. There’s no way around this, and she even admits she’s happy with her size. Photographing a plus size subject can be tricky, but not this woman. The photos show off her bubbly personality without drawing focus to her size. The husband and wife team, Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin also photographed Dakota Fanning for the other cover. Another highlight from the issue is the spread by Karl Lagerfeld featuring Miss Dirty Martini, a burlesque performer. He uses shadows to produce striking images, and a gorgeous close-up.
