According to a report today from VG 24/7, Insomniac Games community web developer Tim Salvitti said despite calls for Sunset Overdrive to launch on both next-gen platforms, the developer will only release the game on the Xbox One and not the PlayStation 4.
Salvitti took to the Insomniac forums, where a petition had been started to bring the game over to the PS4, to say that Sunset Overdrive will only be released as an Xbox One exclusive.
“Sunset Overdrive is and will be exclusive to the Xbox One. Petitions will not change that. We have a partner in Microsoft that we are happy with for this title,” Salvitti said before locking the thread.
Salvitti also wrote that he realizes that this might displease people, but if the game speaks for itself the console issue will become a “nonissue.”
In reply to another forum writer, however, Salvitti said Insomniac wouldn’t shut the door on bringing Sunset Overdrive to the PS4, but said for gamers to not count on it because the title is being developed and optimized specifically for the Xbox One
“I will not say never because you never really know (heck Ratchet could end up on Xbox one day), but we are not planning on it being on the PS4, nor is it planned to be a timed exclusive,” Salvitti said.
Sunset Overdrive does not yet have a release date.
