DANGER! As InsideStoryTime nears the end of it's fourth year it is really claiming Cafe Royale as its rightful home. That's how it feels to me, anyway, and although this was only my second episode IST really feels like a monthly family reunion.
So, I wrote a little piece about it for The Chronicle. This was taken out: "The website’s list of previous readers has become a nearly comprehensive guide to the Bay Area’s diverse and talented roster of local writers. The boozing and schmoozing continues – but, ever-conscious of book releases and special events, the series has evolved into a monthly sounding board for the literary scene."
I'm going to go ahead and make this claim: just because a paper decides not to print something doesn't make it less true. I have decided, however, not to change my name to "Based On An Article Written by Evan Karp;" it was the article on Thursday night's MC Ransom Stephens and his new book The God Patent that convinced me
(and if you haven't seen the stunning picture taken by staff photographer Lacy Atkins, you should. It screams: 'Ransom Stephens is a particle physicist and first time novelist and he is here to control you. I can't believe I was there when that picture was taken; it seems to have come from another dimension.).
But let's get back to January 21st. The year is 2010. The readers are Saqib Mausoof, Luke Heyerman, Mary Stein, Sophie Littlefield, and Lee Konstantinou, and the theme was the first word in this article.
Sadiq Mausoof, creator of the much-acclaimed film KalaPul, read an excerpt from his novel-in-progress, which is tentatively called Godown:
Luke Heyerman read an excerpt from his novel-in-progress Euthanize My Love:
Mary Stein read from her book The Gift of Danger:
Because Ransom says so:
After the break, Sophie Littlefield got hilarious with an excerpt from her book A Bad Day for Sorry:
Lee Konstantinou followed Ransom's hilarious intro with a reading from Pop Apocalypse:
