InsiderAdvantage poll: Nathan Deal has big lead over Jason Carter in Georgia

According to the latest poll released today by the InsiderAdvantage/FOX 5 Atlanta, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal (R) has twice as much support as his most likely opponent Democrat Jason Carter.

The survey was conducted January 6, included 529 registered voters, and has a +/- 4.6 percent margin of error.

Results:

Nathan Deal – 44%

Jason Carter – 22%

Undecided – 34%

While the race is expected to tighten before the November election, the lead by the Republican Governor is still sizable and discredits earlier reports that Carter has been closing in on Deal.

Carter, the grandson of the former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, still has little name recognition in the state and has yet to release any television advertisement.

In addition, many Georgia voters are not paying attention to the 2014 election cycle quite yet.

However, Georgia is still leaning right and Jimmy Carter has a reputation of a strong liberal. His grandson would have to do a lot to distance himself from that image to win a statewide election.
