InsideOut a volunteer program for Designers and Detroit

InsideOut is a way to release your designer inner-child while volunteering with a K-12 based program that is taking place throughout twenty-four Detroit Public Schools.

The InsideOut Literary Arts Project places professional creative writers as teachers and mentors in schools to engage students in the pleasure and power of literary self-expression. It conducts year-long programs through Detroit Public Schools, annually serving over 2,400 students, grades K through 12, in twenty-four schools. Every year at each school, InsideOut participants produce professionally printed literary magazines, showcasing students; writing and art. These handsome publications feature a full-color cover and black and white interior layout that pairs the poems and more student art work. The process develops student initiative and provides opportunities to celebrate students; creativity in schools and communities.

As a graphic design volunteer for InsideOut, you would be assigned to a writer and and a school. Your job would be to provide the layout for one of these books. The books must be designed in Adobe InDesign CS or later. You will have 3 weeks (April 8-30) to design a 64-page book, with revisions being made May 4-6.

If you are interested in helping out and volunteering please contact them by February 20, 2010.
