Approximately 35,000 plus participants began their course near the eastern neck of San Francisco wharves which overlook the bay. The 12K, or roughly 7.45 mile route, guided participants through the city toward the western side of the peninsula and ended near Ocean Beach where the Pacific Ocean waves break along the coast. Several landmarks could be seen throughout the race including: Mascone Center; Golden Gate Park; Conservatory of Flowers; California Academy of Sciences; and the De Young Museum.

In a recent Bay to Breakers press statement, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee said, “This Sunday’s 2014 Bay to Breakers showcases the great spirit that is San Francisco. At the same time, the City and race organizers have worked hard to make sure the race is safe, fun, sober and civil.”

During the two days leading up to the 113th Bay to Breakers, the public was welcome to attend the pre-race expo where registered participants could pick up their pre-race packets and everyone could visit the nearly 100 exhibitor booths to see the trending fitness foods and gadgets. According to the Bay to Breakers fact sheet, over 50,000 participants were expected to come through the expo. The Bay to Breakers Expo was held at the San Francisco Concourse & Exhibition Center on Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17.
