The Virginia Resource Advisory Committee has scheduled two meetings in July. The committee oversees and provides advice to the U.S. Forest Service about management of Jefferson and George Washington national forests in the Shenandoah Valley. The meetings concern what to do with Title II money from the Secure Rural Schools & Community Self-Determination Act. The meetings were announced in the Federal Register of Monday, June 9, 2014.

The funding is used for projects in national forests to improve habitats for fish and wildlife, maintain infrastructure and help the environment. Resource advisory committees can also use up to 10 percent of their grant money to cover their administrative expenses. Forests must decide how to spend the money by Sept. 30.

The public is welcome to attend the meetings. They take place on Friday, July 11, 2014 and Friday, July 18, 2014. The all-day affairs start at 10 a.m. ET. They are scheduled to run until 6 pm. ET.

The meetings take place at the George Washington & Jefferson national forests supervisor's office, conference room, 5162 Valleypointe Pkwy., Roanoke, Va. (This administrative office is not located in either one of the forests.) For details, contact Michael Williams, RAC Coordinator, by phone at 540-265-5173 or email at Also contact Williams if you need assistance such as a sign language interpreter or other special accommodations.

Individuals will be allowed to speak at the meeting for up to three minutes each. If you wish to address the committee, it requests that you register to do so by July 7.

The public is welcome to submit written statements in advance for the committee's consideration or afterward to comment. All comments will become part of the public record. Send comments to Williams at the above address or fax them to (540) 265-5145. If you wish to view the file, the committee asks that you call in advance to make it easier to get into the building.
