Inn-Ternational Travels at a Bed and Breakfast

What if you could travel the world without the hassle of actually dealing with international travel?  You may not know this but there are many bed & breakfasts that offer worldly getaways that are almost as authentic as the culture you're interested in.  Whether you're curious about the exotic spices of Morocco or the quaint English country life, travel the world and back at a B&B.

To Boot - Get a taste of the "Old World" and sign up for the Italian Puglia cooking special from Lavender Inn in Ojai, California.  Taking place on May 2, 2010, the class will focus on the distinct flavors of Puglia, the southeastern region that forms the heel on the "boot" of Italy.   Puglia is not only known for their incredible wines, but the orecchiete pasta has its origins here.  Transport yourself to the quiet village of Trulli cottages, sun-drenched, rolling hills and the cool breeze from the Adriatic coastline, while learning to prepare orecchiette with broccoli, mussels in spiced tomato sauce, chocolate figs with cognac pine nuts and dessert wine.

Spice Up - There's a whole world of spices that are waiting to be discovered and you can get a head start with a Moroccan supper at Chestnut Street Inn in Sheffield, Illinois.  Chef/Innkeeper Monika Sudakov is serving up an exotic culinary journey for her guests on March 26, 2010 with a Moroccan theme meal that begins with fennel and orange salad, roasted beet salad, roasted eggplant and tomato salad, hummus, Moroccan relish, ground beef meatball tagine (stew) and a honey citrus cake.  All the dishes are typical of the vegetarian cuisine found in Fes, the third largest city in Morocco.  If you can't make it to dinner but crave Moroccan food, sign up for a cooking class with Chef Monika.  Class participants will learn to prepare harira (beef, tomato and rice soup), Moroccan relish, B'Stilla (chicken phyllo pie) or fava bean dip bisaara, garlic and harissa shrimp and lamb tagine with plums.

Bed & Bangers - Calling all Brit-philes!  It's time to put all those quirky British sayings to good use at The Woodstocker Inn in Woodstock, Vermont.  Knackered guests will be in jolly good spirits after relaxing in the British style rooms.  Guests can also hang out in the library which houses a collection of British publications that span over 25 years.  The B&B also cooks to order a European breakfast where guests can nosh on homemade muesli, a selection of breads with marmalade, jams or marmite, HP sauce with smoked salmon, porridge, bangers (sausages) and a selection of  teas.  Don't forget to check out the English style garden as well. Cheers!

Inn Luck - Looking for a wee bit of Irish luck?  When the emerald isle seems too far, take a leap of faith at The Irish Inn in Ozark, Illinois.  Guests can experience true Celtic hospitality complete with storytelling and blarney right in the heart of the Shawnee National Forest.  Why not celebrate St. Patrick's Day all year long?  Guests with an Irish background can even trace their roots and look up their genealogy history at the inn.  By morning, a full Irish breakfast will leave you in such good spirits, you may be wishing everyone "top of the morning!"
