A 20 year old man has died after being beaten to death by fellow inmates at the Mountainview Youth Correctional Facility in Annandale, NJ.
Chief of detectives for the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office, Dan Hurley, states around10:45 p.m. officers in the correctional facility responded to a disturbance in one of the pods, and that’s when they found the body of Carl Epps, laying unconscious on the floor. He was transported immediately to Hunterdon Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
According to the state Department of Corrections website, Epps, a Egg Harbor resident, had just started serving a three-year sentence at the facility, for robbery.
The State Police Crime Scene Unit processed the scene and detectives are still interviewing all of the inmates housed in the unit. A joint investigation between detectives from the State Police and Prosecutor’s major crimes units and the Department of Corrections Special Investigations Department is being conducted to determine what went down and exactly who and how many inmates participated in the attack.

This is beyond AWFUL!!!!!! The Corrections System won't find out who did it! No one is going to talk because they will fear their lives! Where were the Guards when this fight was going on!? I think we need to re-evaluate the entire corrections system as well as the "CO'S" who aren't doing their jobs!!!!!! This poor kid lost his life! And for what!? Probably a gang initiation! Way to keep your eyes open CO's!
I USED TO WORK AT THAT PLACE . I TRANSFERED I WORKED THEIR FOR 8 YEARS . PEOPLE THINK ITS AN EASY JOB AND ITS NOT. U PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE THAT THERE IS ONLY 1 OFFICER BY HIMSELF TO 64 INMATES. U CAN'T HEAR EVERYTHING THAT GOES ON IN A PRISON. IF U THINK U CAN DO A BETTER JOB THEN APPLY IF NOT KEEP YOUR COMMENTS TO YOURSELF .
I agree, the guards never get their jobs done right. They can care a less whats going on directly in front of them. If it's one co per tier, that's a BIG problem. As much tax money they take out my check, it should be plenty of guards that should of never let this occur. I think management and "co's need to be evaluated A.S.A.P!!!
i know this post is a little late... i was an inmate at mycf when this happened. the officers can care less. most of them fear that they are the only guard for so many inmates. it's easier for them to turn their head when something goes down than have a problem with inmates. most of the time when a fight is about to happen, someone will approach the guard an tell him and he will "take a walk" or something. the most messed up part of what happened this day was that the guard never new a fight happened. he did his walk through the unit twice before he noticed someone wasn't on their bed. anyone can say what they want about this post, i don't care. i was an inmate with some rank... i knew everything that went on for the 42 months that i was there. my sources are way more accurate than the prosecutor and DOC's are. a little background on the killed inmate. he was a crip. he snitched on someone b4 he came to prison. i was good friends with the leading crip member in MYCF when this happened.
